The 3 Big Differences Between UX and UI Design

Before reading this article I knew that UX and UI were not the same but I didn’t fully understand why/how. The reference to the house helped me understand the concept where UX is the structure and functionality, and the UI is how the homeowner interacts with the structure (door knobs, hardware, faucets, etc…). Something I learned from this article is the importance of understanding the difference between the two terms when you are working in the design industry. If you use the wrong language you can confuse your coworkers/clients and even lead them to believe they are talking about one thing when you actually mean the other.

Something else that helped me understand the difference between the two terms is that UX is more research driven while UI is more artistically driven. After reading this part I would assume that UX should be explored first, before the UI is built. Lastly the article says not to assume that other people are using the correct terms so I feel like that means that as designers we need to listen extra carefully and use some critical thinking in order to determine whether someone is talking about UX or UI.
